I was always a big dreamer, and although no one in my family had ever attended college, I knew that it was something I had to do.  While growing up, my parents always instilled in me the importance of getting an education.  They gave me a lot of encouragement and support, but the reality was that they had no clue what the college search and application process consisted of.

That is where the University Outreach Center came in.  When I first enrolled in UOC, I really did not know what the program consisted of, but thanks to them I was able to find the university that was the right fit for me. The UOC staff was very helpful with informing me about the admissions requirements for different colleges, as well as financial aid; among many other things.  They were extremely insightful. Luckily I was able to keep in touch with them after high school and throughout college.  For me, the college visits where the most beneficial.  I did not really have the resources to visit many universities around Texas, but because of UOC, I was able to visit about five different campuses before I finally decided to attend the University of Texas at Austin.

College was one of the best experiences of my life.  I was exposed to more opportunities than I ever imagined, and was able to make my dream of studying abroad in France come true.  I left my comfort zone and explored different cultures, cultures for which I now have a great appreciation.

I am so happy to be on the other side of the spectrum as I help students explore their college options. I now work for The University of Texas at Austin as an Admissions Counselor.  I love visiting with students, especially students who are in the same situation that I was, and letting them know about the endless possibilities available to them. It is so satisfying to see the excitement of students once they have been accepted to their dream school and knowing that they are going to go on and do such great things. My advice for everyone is to dream BIG!
