Description and Mission Statement
The University Outreach Center - Rio Grande Valley was established in September, 1988. The program is designed to help low-income and potential first-generation college students prepare for university-level academic work. Our mission is to assist underrepresented students graduate from high school and matriculate at an institution of higher education.
Program Highlights
The UOC-Rio Grande Valley University Outreach staff meets with students at target schools in the McAllen, Mission, Pharr-San Juan, Alamo and San Benito Independent School Districts. The Center’s primary focus is to meet with target students on a monthly basis and conduct parent meetings to increase awareness of the college process. In addition to these meetings, the staff coordinate workshops that are designated to assist students and their parents as well as campus visits to familiarize students with college life. |
