Programs

Test Prep WorkshopsWorkshops designed to help students prepare for college entrance exams, facilitated by one of the premiere test prep companies.

College Campus Visits – The Center coordinates campus visitations to Texas A&M University, The University of Texas at Austin, Texas State University, Texas Women’s University, the University of St. Thomas, Houston Baptist University, Rice University and other Texas colleges and universities.

Application Workshops – Workshop in which seniors access the University Outreach college library and complete admissions, financial aid and scholarship applications.

Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) – A space to voice concerns and offer solutions to get through the complicated maze we call college planning.  In the meetings, we share ideas and discuss topics such as how to talk to your child about the benefits of college and how to fund their education.

University Jumpstart – Four-week intensive academic program including Friday field trips.  Will include college exploration speakers, motivational presentations and an overnight stay at The University of Texas at Austin- For 8th Grade students only.

Longhorn Round-Up – Overnight visit to The University of Texas at Austin designed to give students an in-depth look at all that the university has to offer.

Tutorial – Through a partnership with the University of Houston Community Initiative tutoring assistance is offered to all participants in grades 9-12, Monday-Thursday free of charge.  To schedule tutoring sessions, call Robbie Evans, University of Houston Community Initiative Program Director at (713) 743-6032.

Community Services Opportunities - Students give back to the community by volunteering their time and talents to various groups and organizations in the Houston area.

Major Mania Mondays –Participants get to talk to college students and professors about their area of expertise.  This helps them gain exposure to career fields they might have never considered before.
